 HORSE TRAILS IN THE MIX

I assume you heard we were getting into the trail riding business . I just posted the footer on it yesterday! I have toyed with the idea for a few years and finally committed the resources to get-r-done. I believe it will be a great thing for all parties involved. I bred paints years ago and have always felt connected to the business. A good friend of mine and a respected expert in horse balance (one of the founders of BOGHS) by the name of Tommy Lee Osha convinced me to follow true with the venture. After, I will add, Tommy promised to help me out with the initial set up and layout of the facilities. Tommy was impressed the first time he visited the Buck and Boar and was certain I could offer riders a unique experience that would be difficult to duplicate elsewhere.

What we have now is a modern lodge and a private cabin, cookhouse, cleaning shed, rifle range (a larger one under const.), three ponds and over 1300 acres (850 acres under high fence), and a hog and deer herd that is second to none.

What we are adding are R/V sites and camping. Twelve x twelve corrals, marked trails (inside and outside of the fence), a ton of cat-fish to the lodge pond to allow pay-per-pound fishing, and some wildlife viewing platforms.

I’m going into all this not just to get your business but I really would like to hear your opinion on the whole thing. My (and tommys) concept is where else can a man take the family, have awesome trails, great fishing, wild life viewing where you will see deer and boar hogs bigger than most ever dream of seeing. A 600yd shooting range will be at your disposal, you will have the option of a pig BBQ or fish fry cooked for you, a guided trophy cat fishing trip on Santee cooper lakes can be arranged by us and become part of your stay and last but not least anyone will have the option to go out on an evening boar hunt? I think it beats the hell out of going on one of those overcrowded trail rides. We plan on offering the trails to riders Apr 1- Sept30. Hunting slows down during this half of the year to a level that can be managed along with the trail riding without one having a negative impact on the other.

Let me know what you think about our by-product of thinking to hard to sleep! Call or e-mail anytime, I feel sure we can put something together you and the family will enjoy.

Construction on the first phase of our new 600yd. 20 station rifle range and a 50yd. pistol range should be completed in the fall of "08". This will replace the 100yd. Range our guest are familiar with. The new range will be available to our hunting guests to enjoy but will also be open to the public on a membership only basis. Long term plans for the range include a 25 target 3-D archery course (phase 2) and a skeet shooting facility (phase 3). Helping us design this range is our good friend and famous rifle builder Bob Hart. We expect the new range to be the gem of the south and look forward to holding national bench rest matches. If you are interested in a membership contact Troy Ayer at 803-600-5517. Memberships will be limited.

 HORNADY 450 BUSHMASTER HOG   HUNT

  MARCH 30-APR-1 2007

Big boar bullets, black guns, bulldogs-n-boar hogs are a common place thing when one of the worlds most innovative cartridge mfg. company's rolls in to camp to test prototype 45 cal. ammo. on North Americas toughest big game animal! Hornadys newest addition to their cutting edge Leverloution family was unveiled Friday Mar. 30 at the Buck and Boar rifle range. The new 450 BUSHMASTER was under the microscope and the industry's top authorities were invited to do the looking, or should I say, shooting. On the guest list was top gun Dick Metcalf, Richard Venola, Bob Hunnicutt, Bill Battles and Mark Keefe. Pam and Terry of Boar Hunter Magazine wouldn't have missed it for the world. Hornady flew in Mr. "H" himself along with S.C. native Wayne Holt to ensure the barrels stayed hot and the brass kept flying! I would be lying if I said I couldn't feel the pressure, it was compounded compression on me and my staff. Top brass were in town and boar hogs had to go down! Going down dosen't describe the ensuing pig pursuing, by Sunday we had slam dunked a pile of pork that filled our walk in cooler and made the pressure seem like a bad dream. Thank the good Lord and all the Buck and Boar staff for being up for the momoment.

The Hornady crew harvested 11 total hogs, two stalking and the rest over dogs. All were respectable hogs, four being truly great trophy's. The 450 bushmaster proved to meet or exceed all expectations and prove to be a hard hitter with the penetration boar hunting demands. Hog hunters who fancy semi-auto rifles now have a cartridge alternative that is in a class with the tried and true 45-70 & 444.
